Celeb Twitter Round-Up: Makhadzi Apology Fires Up Twitter

June 04, 2026

South Africa’s history can not be divorced from its present, but you sometimes find those who want to twist it for their own agenda. The world has been going through a rough patch with regards to finances, and everyone is looking for a scapegoat to blame for how difficult life has become. In this instance, you have bigoted locals pointing the finger at foreigners.

Over the past two decades, Mzansi has seen its own citizenry intimidating or even attacking Africans from neighbouring countries and farther across the continent. The unfortunate souls often travel to the foot of Africa to find their fortunes and instead, come face-to-face with hardships and xenophobia.

What makes the situation worse are those with a sizable online presence sharing unhelpful opinions or misinformation, such as Makhadzi – real name Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona – who shared her thoughts on a viral TikTok clip showing an unknown Zulu man checking the official documents of a Venda man after a fender bender.

Once she realised that she was in the wrong, the 29-year-old “Amadoda” hitmaker took to X/Twitter on Wednesday, 3 June, to apologise for her mis-step: “I am not going to stop asking you to forgive me. I am not tribalistic, I just didn’t know things would turn out like this. Kindly please forgive me, my fellow South Africans. I still repeat, I am not against March and March. [sic]”

Much like her ill-fated reaction video prior, the apology lit another social media fire and users burned her with thoughts, opinions and criticisms. Makhadzi tried to show her sincerity by apologising to each individual but the onslaught was relentless and overwhelming.

It’s one thing to have an opinion, but it’s another when your ignorance is shared online for all to see. Then people tell you (loudly) how ignorant you are, while pointing out where you went wrong.

The songstress had previously mentioned her grasp of the English language isn’t too great, but then again, on Twirra anything goes and people will come for every little thing that’s wrong about you. Including your poor language skills.

To rub salt in the wounds, she had one supporter. Problem is, it took the form of the notorious troll Chris Excel.

However, in and amongst all of this, there were those who chose to look past it all and find it in themselves to forgive Makhadzi and simply tell her to not repeat her mistakes.

As much as the country grapples with unheard anger and a deficit of justice, you can not lose track of your humanity and cause harm to another human being. It costs nothing to be patient and be kind. The next person might need both.
